My sweet daughter and I headed out on our Spring Break vacation tonight. My wife and older daughter drove us to the airport where hugs and kisses were exchanged.
Adventure 1: Repacking at the airport!
Grace and I made our way up to the escalator to the self check-in ticket counter and realized my bag was 66 pounds and would incur and additional charge of 60 dollars. With that knowledge i now became highly motivated to redistribute the weight between our 3 bags. Grace smartly help me pull out the items we thought would weight the most..... who would have thought two baseball mitts, 1 softball, 2 pairs of sandals, a pair of tennis shoes and an art sketch book would weigh 16 pounds, but it did our 60 dollar crisis was averted.
Adventure 2: Within 10 minutes we had our second adventure. This time it was with an unhappy, uber serious security guard. I am sure it was near the end of her shift because I have not that many people who are that mean without a some serious reason.
Grace and I were in the security line when we noticed the dreaded "UNATTENDED BAG" After a few inquiries of ownership with no claimers, I politely sought out the aforementioned security guard. Substituting a handgun for a walkie talkie, she began to provide her own personal reign of terror on the poor young Iranian women who had left the suitcase under the dividing ropes for convenience. The threat of police action was clearly being announced all the while Grace was trying to assist the young women by retrieve her "UNATTENDED BAG" for her. The guard told Grace to "Do NOT touch that bag!" Eventually Grace and I made it through security without X-ray or cavity search! I must say with such an awesome beginning we had an uneventful flight ( just the kind you want!) The best part was seeing Mom and Grace hug and greet and share the same words I heard as a kid.
"Your so grown up!!!" "I am so glad you came!!!"
My mom looks great, she is doing so well. When we walked in the house Grace proclaimed .... "What smells sooo goood!" Fresh baked Banana Bread!
I wish I could share that wonderful smell still wafting around the backroom where I am typing.
Anyway... I am grateful for the giving spirit of my wife for letting Grace and I take this trip. I pray that Hannah and Victoria will be blessed with their time together this week.
